About Brian Shifman

Brian Shifman is the Executive Director of Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan (NTV), an award-winning not-for-profit. The Smart Commute network works with over 100 leading employers in the Greater Toronto Area to combat traffic congestion and climate change.  Some of Smart Commute NTV’s community partners include Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, North York General Hospital, York University, Sanofi Pasteur, Enbridge, Downsview Park, City of Toronto and Metrolinx. The organization was honoured with a 2009 City of Toronto Bicycle Friendly Business Award - Best Suburban Business and the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce 2009 Mayor’s Corporate Citizen Award.

Brian has 10 years of progressive senior management experience, built on a foundation of community outreach, partnership building and innovative program creation. He has worked for NGOs and in the private and public sectors, including the City of Toronto. Prior to joining Smart Commute, Brian represented travel-tourism clients while working for a leading public relations-marketing agency. Brian holds a B.A. (Honours) from Queen’s University and a Public Relations post-graduate certificate from Humber College.

Over the past 15 years, his volunteer service and community activities include working with the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce (current Board member), Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) Working Group, Spadina-York Subway Extension Committee, York University Development Corporation Advisory Council, Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, CNIB and Canada 25.

Born and raised in the community, Brian attended Summit Heights Public School and Adath Israel Hebrew School. His family continues to maintain a long standing membership at Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda Synagogue.

Brian is running to bring accountable, accessible and dynamic leadership to the City for the residents of Ward 10.
